1. Definition of Onomatopoeia/What is Onomatopoeia :

An Onomatopoeia consists in using a word similar to the sound. (2010, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21,22)

Examples of Onomatopoeia –

1. Cooing of doves is very pleasant.
2. The clanging pots and pans awoke the baby.
3. I hear the humming of bees.
4. The snakes are hissing and bees are buzzing.
5. Swords clanged and guns boomed.
6. The curfew tolls the knell of a parting day.

2. Definition of Simile/What is Simile :

A simile expresses comparison between two unlike objects or events. Usually the comparison is expressed by using like, such as, just as, as…………. as, so………….as. (2012, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22)

Examples of Simile –

1. I could lie down like a tired child, and weep away the life of care.
2. Childhood is like a swiftly passing dream.

In Hyperbole, a statement is made emphatic by overstatement.
